Adamawa State was created on 27 August 1991 from the defunct Gongola State. It is made up of the defunct Adamawa and Sardauna provinces. The state is nicknamed “Land of Beauty”. The Capital of Adamawa state is Yola.

Adamawa state is situated in the North Eastern part of Nigeria, with a total land area of about 38,700 Km2. It is bordered by the states of Borno to the Northwest, Gombe to the West and Taraba to the Southwest. Its Eastern border forms the National Eastern border with Cameroon.
