Lagos State is a former capital of Nigeria, It is located in the Southwestern geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It was created on 27 May 1967. Lagos State spans the Guinea coast of the Atlantic Ocean for over 180km, located to the Republic of Benin on the West and Ogun state on the East.
Lagos State is popularly called the “Center of Excellence” and it is the largest economy in the country, 5th largest in Africa and the 7th fastest-growing city in the World. The State has a Total land area of about 3,671 Km2. The capital of Lagos state is Ikeja.
Lagos State is made of five administrative divisions, namely: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos [Eko] and Epe. The divisions were created in May 1968 by Administrative Divisions [Establishment] Edict No. 3 of April 1968. The Divisions are further divided into 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas respectively, following Nigeria’s federal structure and the need to bring governance, development and participatory democracy to the grassroots.
