Ondo State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria which was created on 3 February 1976 from the former Western State. It originally included what is now Ekiti State, which was split off in 1996. Ondo state’s slogan is “Sunshine State” and its capital city is Akure. Ondo State has a total land area of about 15,820 Km2.
There are 18 Local Government Areas LGAs in Ondo state namely Akoko North-East, Akoko North-West, Akoko South-East, Akoko South-West, Akure North, Akure South, Ese Odo, Idanre, Ifedore, Ilaje, Okeigbo, Irele, Odigbo, Okitipupa, Ondo East, Ondo West, Ose and Owo.
Its Major crops are cocoyam, Rubber, Oil Palm, Cashew, and Cocoa. Its mineral Resources are Bitumen, Timber, Crude oil, Limestone, Granite, Coal, and Columbine.
