Enugu state is among the 36 states in Nigeria which is located in the SouthEastern part of Nigeria. It is created on 27 August 1991 and was derived from the capital city, Enugu (top of the hill). it is popularly called the “Coal City’’.

The state shares borders with Abia State and Imo State to the South, Ebonyi State to the East, Benue State to the Northeast, Kogi State to the Northwest and Anambra State to the West.

It is also the highest melon seed-producing state in the country. Enugu State has a Total land area of about 7,534 Km2

There are 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Enugu state namely Aninri, Awgu, Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Ezeagu, Igbo-Etiti, Igboeze North, Igboeze South, Isi-Uzo, Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Nsukka, Oji River, Udenu, Udi, Uzo-Uwani.

Major crops are Melon, Yams, Oil Palm, Taro, Maize, Rice, and Cassava. Solid minerals in Enugu are Iron ore, Coal, Lead-Zinc Ore.
