Rivers State is one of the 36 states located in the South-South of Nigeria. it was created on 27 May 1967. Rivers State is bounded on the South by the Atlantic Ocean, to the North by Imo, Abia and Anambra States, to the East by Akwa Ibom State, and to the West by Bayelsa and Delta states.
The capital of Rivers states is Port Harcourt, it is regarded as the Centre of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The slogan Rivers State is “Treasure Base of the Nation”. It is on Nigeria’s coastline and has many seaports. Rivers State has a total land area of about 10,575 Km2
There are 23 Local Government Areas LGAs in rivers state namely Port-Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Okrika, Ogu-Bolo, Eleme, Tai, Gokana, Khana, Oyigbo, Opobo-Nkoro, Andoni, Bonny, Degema, Asari-Toru, Akuku-Toru, Abua-Odual, Ahoada West, Ahoada East, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, Emohua, Ikwerre, Etche and Omuma.
Its major crops are Cassava, Rubber, Oil Palm, Coconut, Raffia Palm, Rice, Yam, Maize, Watermelon and Vegetables. Its mineral Resources are Crude oil, Silica, Glass Sand and Clay.
