Sokoto state is one of the 36 states located in the Northwestern region of Nigeria. It was Created on 3 February 1976, it shares borders with Niger Republic to the North, Katsina State to the East, Zamfara State to the Southeast, Kebbi State to the South and Benin Republic to the West.

Sokoto is popularly called the “Seat of the Caliphate” and was founded as a ribat (military camp or frontier) in 1809 when Shehu Usmanu was at Sifawa. The State is a veritable centre of Islamic learning and jurisprudence and has the largest limestone reserves in Africa. Sokoto State has a total land area of about 27,825 Km2

There are 23 Local Government Areas in Sokoto state namely Binji, Bodinga, Dange-shnsi, Gada, Goronyo, Gudu, Gawabawa, Illela, Isa, Kware, Kebbi, Rabah, Sabon Birnin, Shagari, Silame, Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Tambuwal, Tangaza, Tureta, Wamako, Wurno, Yabo.

Its major crops are Onions, Sugarcane, Millet, Guinea corn, Maize, Rice, Beans, Wheat, Cassava, Potatoes, Groundnut, Cotton and Tobacco. while its Solid minerals are Phosphate, Gypsum, Limestone and Kaolin.
